We Survived Week One AND Two!

Where do I begin? All I can say is nobody can prepare a new parent for the first two weeks of parenthood. The transition from being childless to having one to care for day and night is unreal. Here are the things I’ve found to be true after 14 days of being a mommy.

  • When people say you won’t know what tired is until you have a kid, they aren’t lying. I will never complain about being too tired again. Caring for a newborn is by far the toughest gig.
  • Being productive at all is something worth celebrating. This includes taking a shower in a 24 hour period.
  • Getting pee’d on…we’ll get used to it. She pee’s on me after getting out of the bath, during a change, practically anytime I’ve failed to put a diaper on her quick enough.
  • Accept help from family and friends to catch up on sleep or things that need to get done in or outside of the house.
  • Breastfeeding is rough. Waking every 2-3 hours for a tiny human to feed off of you is exhausting!
  • You’ll have fears and anxiety over things you never did before. All for the love and wellbeing of your child.
  • Your poor dogs, who were your babies before will more than likely feel neglected and be neglected due to all your time and energy being placed on your baby.
  • Your hormones and emotions will be through the roof. I could seriously cry on command at any given time for any given reason and then feel embarrassed and ridiculous for doing so.
  • You will love your baby more than you thought was humanly possible. It will make all the craziness and chaos worth it.
  • There will never be a more rewarding job…never.
  • You will fall in love with your husband all over again watching him hold the child you both created.
  • You’ll have a new found appreciation for your parents. The exact thing they told you would happen once you became a parent yourself.
  • You’ll be happy, tired, frustrated, overwhelmed, and did I say happy? Yes, it’s all worth it but be ready for all of the above.
