Let It Go

Pre-kids I was a little preposterous about a clean house. In fact, nothing drove me more nutty then walking in my front door to a messy kitchen. And by messy I mean, dirty dishes left in the sink, clean dishes left behind to dry, a stack of mail on the island (totally my husband since I am hip with things and have all my mail delivered electronically).

To most this might not seem like a big deal. Well, multiply the mess (or what I thought was mess) by 1,000 when a child is in the mix. Don’t get me wrong, we don’t live in a pigpen but my perfectly clean (everything in it’s place) house is practically non existent these days. For months following my daughters birth, I tried to keep up with my cleaning routine–once a week a good deep cleaning, laundry, polishing furniture etc. Who was I kidding? Trying to keep up with that (not so important stuff) drove me mad!

I recently visited my dentist for my biannual cleaning and was told that I am grinding my teeth so badly I am in desperate need of a mouth guard to wear at night. I was asked, are you stressed? Well, I’m sure there is a bit of stress related to becoming a new mom, trying to still be a great wife, and working a 100% commission based job, but I think I have a pretty good handle on it–most days. However, to be told I am wearing my teeth flat, was slightly surprising.

There are so many things to stress over but how much easier would it be to just LET IT GO and relax a bit? Who cares if the house isn’t spotless 100% of the time, if dinner doesn’t get made–order take out, if I’m not making the money I was making before kids–it’s ok there is enough to pay the bills and still have a life. I mean really, it’s all going to be okay.
