Dream Boards

Maybe you’ve heard of them, maybe not. But Dream Boards have been used for years as a form of motivation and keeping people on track with goals they’ve set for themselves. David and I have been talking about creating our own separate boards for what seems like “way too long now.” Truth be told, I’ve been putting it off. I keep asking myself why and I still don’t have the answer. All I know is 2015 is going to be an “excuse free” year for me. I’ve had it with procrastination, I’m kicking it to the curb. This year will be all about setting goals and most importantly reaching those exact goals. This isn’t a “New Years Resolution.” Instead, it’s a start in the right direction. A promise to myself to just “try my best” and see what happens.

If you have never created a dream board for yourself, I suggest you do. I’m sure you have some outdated magazines lying around the house and if you don’t ask a friend if they have any. Thumb through the pages for ideas and inspiration. Ask yourself this question, “If the sky was my limit, what would my life look like?” Hopefully, there’s more to your dream board than materialistic things, although let’s be real, that stuff can be really nice too. But really dig deep to figure out what kind of things would genuinely bring you happiness and gratitude.

Grab some scissors and cut out words, cut out different letters to create your own words, pictures, articles etc. Paste them onto your board and make sure you glance at it everyday. Try not to stick it in a spot you will easily overlook or forget about. Carefully select the location where you will hang the board. I suggest your bedroom or personal bathroom. Any place that’s private. Take a few minutes each day to look it over and review the goals you’ve set for yourself. Perhaps even journal about it. Write about your progress, setbacks, obstacles you’ve overcome etc.

At the end of the year, reflect. Did you meet your goals? Why or why not? Trust me, you will know exactly why you didn’t meet certain goals if for some reason you don’t. We always know the reason we just don’t like to face it.

Hopefully, you meet most of the goals though. If not, have a plan to continue working towards them. This is my promise to myself. Before January 1, 2015 my board will be complete. I surprised David when I come home the other day with two boards and a ton of magazines. Together we will create our own board and make a promise to each other right then and there to give 110% in 2015 and make some of our dreams become our reality.
